§ Mr. MarlowTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will investigate the possible current or future use as food aid in countries with severe food shortages of suitable beef slaughtered in accordance with EU-supported anti-bovine spongiform encephalopathy measures. [26889]
§ Mrs. Browning[holding answer 26 April 1996]: The regulations covering these measures require that the meat from animals slaughtered under them is removed from the human and animal food chain. It will not therefore be available for use as food aid. In any case, it would not be appropriate to use for food aid meat which is not deemed suitable for use in the United Kingdom.
