HC Deb 16 April 1996 vol 275 cc440-1W
Ms Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what safeguards are in place to ensure that information about railcard holders and railcard promotional schemes is not used by train operating companies that run bus and coach services to target and undercut other train operating companies' services with bus and coach services. [25439]

Mr. Watts

Arrangements between train operating companies prohibit the information on railcard databases being used in connection with the development of any product operating as an alternative to the railcard.

Ms Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information is available to privatised train operating companies regarding the personal details of railcard holders. [25435]

Mr. Watts

The inter-operator agreements governing the railcards provide for all operators to have access to any information held on a railcard database. Information held on railcard databases is protected under the Data Protection Act 1984.
