HC Deb 16 April 1996 vol 275 c364W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many fire officers were injured in the course of their duty in 1995; and if he will make a statement. [24602]

Mr. Sackville

In England and Wales in the financial year 1994–95, the latest year for which figures are available, one fire officer died and 737 were seriously injured in the line of duty. Serious injuries are defined as those which result in absence from duty for at least one month or two weeks or more of hospitalisation.
