Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many cases brought by individuals have been dismissed by the fair employment tribunal since January 1990. [25234]

Mr. Ancram

A total of 159 complaints brought by individuals have been dismissed by the fair employment tribunal during the period 1 January 1990 to 31 March 1996.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many of the cases heard by the fair employment tribunal were(a) individual cases of alleged discrimination, (b) appeals by employers to the tribunal and (c) applications by the commission for enforcement of undertakings. [25231]

Mr. Ancram

The fair employment tribunal heard 207 complaints between 1 January 1990 and 31 March 1996. All involved individual complaints of alleged discrimination and there were no appeals by employers to the tribunal or application by the commission for enforcement of undertakings.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many cases before the fair employment tribunal have been settled; and of these cases how many were settled on terms endorsed on counsel's brief since January 1990. [25233]

Mr. Ancram

During the period 1 January 1990 to 31 March 1996, 50 complaints were conciliated by the Labour Relations Agency and 1,122 complaints were withdrawn. It is not known how many of these complaints were settled on terms endorsed on counsel's brief.
