To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the implications of the European Communities (Employment in the Civil Service) Order 1991 for service in the police and prison services. [22918]

[holding answer 28 March 1996]: The European Communities (Employment in the Civil Service) Order 1991 makes it possible for the Prison Service in England and Wales to appoint suitable candidates who are nationals of other European Union member states. The order does not apply to the police service.
