To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how much the Scottish Office has spent promoting(a) the right-to-buy scheme and (b) exemptions from prescription charges in 1995–96; and of that, how much was spent in each case on (i) television, (ii) radio and (iii) the press. [24459]

[holding answer 3 April 1996]: In 1995–96, my Department spent £168,000 on promoting the right-to-buy scheme, of which £111,000 was spent on television and £57,000 on press. A total of £21,000 was spent on a press campaign to publicise exemptions from prescription charges.
