HC Deb 02 April 1996 vol 275 cc179-80W
Mrs. Lait

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the incidence per head of population of(a) tuberculosis and (b) Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. [23772]

Mr. Horam

The provisional notification rate for tuberculosis—excluding chemoprophylaxis—for England and Wales for 1995 is 10.9 per 100,000 of the population (source, Office for National Statistics).

Data to the end of 1994 on Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease are published in the CJD surveillance unit's fourth annual report, copies of which are available in the Library. Provisional data so far suggest that the incidence in 1995 will be lower than in 1994.
