HC Deb 02 April 1996 vol 275 c140W
Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what measures she is taking to increase opportunities for young people to have access to vocational training in dance. [23460]

Mr. Paice

Oversight for the co-ordination of training in the performing arts and entertainment industry, including dance, is the responsibility of the Arts and Entertainment Training Council, the recognised industry training organisation. The AETC is currently developing standards and national vocational qualifications in all sectors of the industry, including dance. The AETC has developed a modern apprenticeship framework for the industry to widen vocational education and training opportunities for young people.

General national vocational qualifications at foundation, intermediate and advanced levels in the performing arts and entertainment are now available to be piloted at various centres from September 1996.
