HC Deb 01 April 1996 vol 275 cc56-7W
Mr. George Howarth

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) if he will publish estimates which have been provided to him of the numbers of people per million of population who need renal dialysis treatment for each regional health authority area for each year since 1986; [24088]

(2) if he will publish the estimates which have been provided to him of the numbers of people per million of population who have received renal dialysis treatment for each regional health authority area for each year since 1986; [24089]

(3) when he intends to publish the renal service review report. [24087]

Mr. Horam

We are still considering the best way to take forward the report of the renal review, and intend to issue guidance on purchasing renal services to health authorities in due course. This would include information on the numbers of people who received renal dialysis in each region. Information on the numbers of people who need renal dialysis is not available centrally; however, guidance has been issued to health authorities on how to carry out a needs assessment of their populations for renal disease.
