HC Deb 31 October 1995 vol 265 cc224-5W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the use of set-aside land for the growing of coriander for conservation into bio-diesel fuel. [39534]

Mr. Baldry

It is possible to grow coriander for industrial purposes as well as other oilseed plants on set-aside land under the area arable payment scheme. However, because of its properties it may be preferable to use coriander oil in the production of specialist industrial oils—for nylons and cosmetics—rather than for biodiesel.
