To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many return trips during the last 12 months have been taken by his Department's staff between London and Leeds(a) per week, (b) per month and (c) annually; and at what cost. [39004]

Mr. Sackville

The total number of return trips by Department of Health staff between London and Leeds in the 12 months to September 1995 is estimated to be 4,730. The estimated travel costs of these journeys is £665,000. Relocation is expected to produce net savings of around £10 million per year after taking account of travel and other additional expenses.
