asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the source of the funds for the 1983 United Nations Family Planning Association (UNFPA) award of $12,500 to Qian Xinzhong, the head of the Chinese State Family Planning Commission, for the most outstanding contribution to the awareness of population questions and whether they will place in the Library of the House a copy of the official text which was used in making the award and any other official comments and remarks.

The Government of China contributed $100,000 to the UNFPA Population Award in 1983. Copies of the acceptance speech of Dr. Qian Xinzhong and statements from the UN Secretary-General and the Chairman of the Population Award at the Population Award ceremony will be placed in the Libraries of the House.
