HC Deb 30 October 1995 vol 265 cc62-3W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assistance was offered by the British embassy in Ankara to the passengers on the Airtours flight from Belfast to Dalaman on 9 September, following the collapse of Villmar Holidays; and if he will make a statement. [39923]

Mr. Hanley

Consular staff in London, Ankara and Marmaris worked closely with the Civil Aviation Authority and Villmar Travel's agents in Turkey, Gentur, to help the stranded passengers. Whilst Gentur assumed primary responsibility, consular staff intervened to persuade local hotels to accept the CAA's guarantee of payment.
