HC Deb 30 October 1995 vol 265 cc92-3W
11. Sir David Knox

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much was spent per pupil in primary schools in Wales in the most recent year for which figures are available; and what was the figure for 1978–79, at constant prices. [37839]

Mr. Richards

The latest figures available are for 1992–93: the amount spent per pupil in primary and nursery schools in that year was £1,657, at 1993–94 prices. This compares to £1,086 in 1979–80, the earliest period for which figures are available. This is an increase of 52.5 per cent. in real terms—a fact that the Labour party seems incapable of recognising.
