HC Deb 30 October 1995 vol 265 c118W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the results of Strathclyde police's Operation Eagle. [39193]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

I welcome Operation Eagle, which has successfully targeted all tiers of the drug dealing and user network throughout Strathclyde. To date, the police have made over 4,000 arrests; seized significant quantities of illicit drugs with an estimated street value of around £4.2 million together with almost £400,000 in cash; and recovered 35 firearms and 169 rounds of ammunition during drug searches. The operation is continuing. I look forward to opening Strathclyde police's seminar on 8 December which will be reviewing the final outcome.
