To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the current level of stock in beef, in tonnes, held in intervention in the United Kingdom; and if he will give details of the age profile of the stock. [38983]

Mr. Baldry

The level of intervention beef stocks in the United Kingdom on 23 October 1995 was 8,858 tonnes. This figure includes stocks of beef committed under the current processing sale EEC regulation 1181/95.

The age profile of these stocks is:

  • 1990: 378.0 tonnes
  • 1991: 2230.5 tonnes
  • 1992: 3677.5 tonnes
  • 1993: 2572.0 tonnes
