HC Deb 30 October 1995 vol 265 c58W
27. Mr. Hawkins

To ask the Attorney-General what steps he is taking to improve the relationship between the Crown Prosecution Service and the police. [37857]

The Solicitor-General

The Crown Prosecution Service and the police are working closely together on a number of initiatives including reducing the volume of paper in prosecution files, greater use of information technology and co-ordinated training.

28. Mr. Skinner

To ask the Attorney-General if he will make a statement on the working of the Crown Prosecution Service. [37859]

The Solicitor-General

The primary function of the Crown Prosecution Service is to prosecute firmly but fairly the 1.5 million cases submitted to it each year by the police. The service is working actively with the other agencies in the criminal justice system both to achieve this objective and to improve the way the system treats witnesses and victims.

Mr. Elletson

To ask the Attorney-General what steps he is taking to improve efficiency in the Crown Prosecution Service. [37853]

The Attorney-General

Efficiency in the Crown Prosecution Service continues to improve. My key priorities currently are to improve still further the close liaison between the CPS, the police and the courts.
