HC Deb 30 October 1995 vol 265 c24W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many hectares of land during 1995 have been used to grow coriander as an alternative to oilseed rape; what was the figure for 1994; and if he will make a statement. [39537]

Mr. Baldry

This Ministry does not routinely collect data on this crop. Coriander was not grown on set-aside in 1994 or 1995. The crop can be used as a green vegetable or for flavouring and the seeds contain 18 per cent. oil predominantly of oleic and petroselenic fatty acids but germination of the crop can be erratic in the UK.
