HC Deb 30 October 1995 vol 265 c12W
Mr. Chisholm

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many families in Scotland have benefited from the child care disregard of up to £40 a week since October 1994; and what is the average financial gain per family. [39928]

Mr. Andrew Mitchell

From 1 October 1994 to 30 June 1995, 5,000 families in Scotland claimed for help with their child care charges. Of these, 2,000 claims were disallowed, 1,000 families had their child care charges allowed but received no extra benefit because they were already in receipt of their maximum family credit and 2,000 families received higher family credit awards as a result of the help with child care charges with an average gain of £12.67 family credit per week.
