To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what is the annual cost of the drug testing programme run by the Sports Council. [39785]

In 1994–95, the Sports Council's expenditure on doping control was £819,301. In addition, the Sports Councils in Wales, in Scotland and in Northern Ireland spent a total of £87,952 on doping control.
