§ Mr. Matthew TaylorTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list proposed special areas of conservation in the United Kingdom that contain specimens of shore dock. [39244]
§ Mr. ClappisonThe sites proposed to Government by the statutory nature conservation agencies, working through the Joint Nature Conservation committee, as possible special areas of conservation representing an appropriate UK contribution for the shore dock—Rumex rupestris—to the European Union wide Natura 2000 network were:
- Angelsey Coast Dunes (Glannau Mons)
- Fal and Helford
- Isles of Scilly Complex
- Penhale Dunes
- Plymouth Sound and Estuaries
- The Lizard
Following a public consultation on those proposals in the spring, the Anglesey coast dunes site was submitted to the European Commission as a candidate special area of conservation in June. I anticipate that other sites for this species will go forward as candidate special areas of conservation later this year.
