§ Mr. NorrisStansted airport opened for commercial use in 1946, but the first regular services did not operate until the following year. The new terminal opened in March 1991, and in that year 1.9 million passengers used the airport. The comparable figure for 1994 was 3.3 million passengers.

It is the responsibility of airport operators or developers to undertake appropriate environmental impact assessments of any major new developments proposed at airports.
