HL Deb 26 October 1995 vol 566 c127WA
Lord Braine of Wheatley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have as to the reasons for the decline in Great Britain of the number of children given for adoption during the period 1968–93.

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

Research indicates that the decline in adoptions has been influenced largely by improved information and methods of contraception and the support available to single mothers wishing to care for their babies.
