HC Deb 25 October 1995 vol 264 cc713-4W
Sir Peter Hordern

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how much money West Sussex county council spent on education in 1994–95 on administration and other central costs apart from direct expenditure on schools. [38578]

Mr. Robin Squire

Expenditure by West Sussex education authority on service strategy and regulation, management and administration and the inspection and advisory service was £11.074 million in 1993–94. This figure has not been adjusted for any changes of function. Outturn figures for 1994–95 are not yet available.

Sir Peter Hordern

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if she will list the revenue support grant settlement for education for West Sussex for each of the last five years up to and including 1994–95, the percentage movement in each year; and if she will give the equivalent percentage figure for England and Wales as a whole. [38579]

Mr. Squire

The information requested since the introduction of the standard spending assessment system in 1990–91 in West Sussex and English local education authorities as a whole is set out in the table. Welsh authorities are funded separately. The percentage figures take amount of local authority changes of functions, such as the transfer of responsibility for most further education to the Further Education Funding Council in 1993–94.
