HC Deb 25 October 1995 vol 264 cc648-9W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what procedures are in place to look after child victims of domestic violence and keep them away from their violent parents. [38467]

Mr. Bowis

I have been asked to reply.

The Government attach a high priority to the safety and welfare of children. The Children Act 1989 makes provision for the temporary or permanent removal of a child from its home if it is in the child's best interest to do so, and provides powers for local authorities to assist a person who is, or is likely, to cause a child to suffer ill treatment, to find alternative accommodation.
