HC Deb 24 October 1995 vol 264 c520W
Mr. Pickthall

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what response he has made to the pan-European biological diversity strategy in relation to no climbing areas or seasons; and what discussions he has held with the British Mountaineering Council on this matter. [38029]

Mr. Clappison

The strategy is on the agenda of the European Environment Ministers conference in Sofia, which the Secretary of State is currently attending.

The strategy is a useful framework for international action but further work is needed on it, particularly consultation with relevant interests, including the British Mountaineering Council.
