To ask the President of the Board of Trade what discussions have taken place with the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company about the dismissal of dockers in Merseyside. [38738]

None. The Government believe that the resolution of industrial disputes is entirely a matter for the parties concerned—enlisting, as with the case of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, the services of ACAS if both sides agree.
