HC Deb 24 October 1995 vol 264 c565W
Ms Lynne

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps his Department is intending to take to inform(a) young female smokers and (b) the general public of the effect of maternal smoking on asthma; and if he will make a statement. [37588]

Mr. Sackville

Asthma in children is one of the many health problems associated with maternal smoking and symptoms of asthma are twice as common in the children of smokers. Information on this and the many other health problems caused by parental smoking forms an important part of the Department's anti-smoking campaign and is particularly emphasised in the smoking in pregnancy programme currently being run by the Health Education Authority.
