HL Deb 23 October 1995 vol 566 c107WA
Lord Lester of Herne Hill

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What safeguards exist to protect the personal privacy of suspected illegal entrants and over-stayers about whom officials in central government pass information to the immigration authorities.

Baroness Blatch

Officials in central government pass to the Immigration and Nationality Department information about suspected illegal entrants and over-stayers provided that they are not prevented from doing so by any statutory obligations or policy constraints. The provisions of the Data Protection Act 1984 are observed by all government departments.
