HC Deb 23 October 1995 vol 264 c427W
Mr. Garnier

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he hopes to publish the 1995 report on the Royal Ulster Constabulary by Her Majesty's inspector of constabulary. [39120]

Sir Patrick Mayhew

Copies of the 1995 inspection report, which is the third RUC inspection report to be published, have today been placed in the Library. I welcome the report and will be considering its recommendations carefully.

I am grateful to Her Majesty's inspector for the report and am pleased to note that overall he regards the force as efficient.

Her Majesty's inspector of constabulary inspections offer the opportunity of professional examination of policing policies and priorities. This inspection forms part of an on-going programme intended to examine over succeeding years various aspects of police management. It is the third in the series to be published and has been a wide-ranging examination of the overall performance of the RUC.
