The Secretary of State for Social Security has asked me to reply to your question about the number of people found capable of work under the All Work Test of Incapacity Benefit (IB), who have subsequently signed on as unemployed; and how many of these were previously receiving invalidity benefit and how many were new 501W claimants of 1B. This is something which falls within the responsibilities delegated to me as Chief Executive of the Employment Service.In the period April to September 1995, 8,974 people disallowed 1B following the All Work Test have made a claim to unemployment benefit (UB). No figures are available on how many of these were previously receiving invalidity benefit and how many were new claimants of IB.I hope this is helpful.
