To ask the Secretary of State for Transport to what extent the new car licence plates in the Federal Republic of Germany incorporating the Euro-emblem result from EU legislation; and under what legislation United Kingdom licence plates would incorporate this emblem. [38421]

The new German number plate format does not result from EU legislation. The relevant UK legislation is the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 1971. We have no plans to make a similar change.
