To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Newcastle upon Tyne, Central (Mr. Cousins) of 17 March,Official Report, column 735, if he will now make it his practice to release historic details of nuclear weapons numbers in the United Kingdom arsenal. Information on the size of our nuclear forces since the 1970s was published in the Statement on the Defence Estimates 1995, Cm 2800, pages 38–39. We have no current plans to release further details of our nuclear weapons numbers.
