HC Deb 16 October 1995 vol 264 cc172-3W
Mr. Tyler

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage how much his Department allocates for tourism promotion in each tourist board area. [36718]

Mr. Sproat

The Department of National Heritage sponsors the English tourist board which makes grants to the regional tourist boards in England for the operation of national programmes. The formula for funding RTBs is agreed between the ETB and the RTBs and is based on scale, need and performance. The regions can also apply for additional funding for specific projects from a tourism development fund.

In 1994–95 the total funding made available to the regional tourist boards, including their allocation from the TDF, was as follows:

£
Cumbria 473,000
East Anglia 618,000
East Midlands 456,000
Heart of England 537,000
London 754,000
Northumbria 394,000
North West 558,000
South East England 522,000
Southern 1,106,000
West Country 615,000
Yorkshire and Humberside 490,000
Total 6,523,000
