HC Deb 16 October 1995 vol 264 c35W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what action he has taken in regard to the reply H-0293/95, by the European Commission to Christine Crawley MEP, in question No. 87 at Question Time in the European Parliament on 17 May, that it is up to European Union member state authorities to provide information on the nature and quantities of munitions disposed at sea and their location, and to investigate the prospective environmental risks arising in order to minimise them. [36763]

Mr. Soames

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for South Shields (Dr. Clark) on 31 March 1995,Official Report, column 875. Current scientific evidence indicates that dumped munitions present no significant risk to human health or the marine environment.
