HC Deb 16 October 1995 vol 264 cc44-5W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what proposals were put by the United Kingdom to the 39th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency general conference in Vienna in September; how were they received; how the United Kingdom responded to or voted on proposals put by other member states of the IAEA; and if he will place in the Library a copy of the United Kingdom submission and final decisions and declarations from the conferences. [37255]

Mr. Page

The UK delegation to the 39th general conference of the IAEA played a full part in the drafting and submission by the European Union of resolutions covering the strengthening of IAEA safeguards, illicit trafficking in nuclear materials, the Convention on Nuclear Safety and the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions relating to Iraq. These draft resolutions were in some cases amended slightly in negotiation with other delegations, but all were eventually adopted by consensus. The UK delegation also participated fully in discussions concerning other resolutions and decisions of the conference.

A copy of the document produced by the IAEA containing resolutions and other decisions of the general conference will be placed in the Library of the House when it becomes available.
