HC Deb 30 November 1995 vol 267 cc893-4W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what intention Her Majesty's Government have of introducing extra-territorial legislation for sex crimes against children abroad, along the lines of that introduced by other western countries. [2002]

Mr. Maclean

We have made clear on previous occasions—12 July,Official Report, column 600—that we do not believe that legislation which extended the jurisdiction of our courts to enable them to deal with sexual offences committed against children abroad would be an effective way to tackle the problem of sex tourism.

Accordingly, we have no plans to introduce such legislation although we continue to keep the matter under review.
