§ Mr. SproatLatest figures for England, based on 1991 population census and the Sports Council's sports facilities database, are for one swimming pool for every 43,429 of the population and one sports centre for every 32,572 of the population. Equivalent figures for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are the responsibility of the respective Secretaries of State. We do not hold comparative data for other European Union member states.
