§ Mr. Alex CarlileTo ask the Secretary for the Home Department what measures are in place to ensure that juries represent the social mix in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement. [2350]
§ Mr. MacleanIt is a fundamental principle of our jury system that juries should as far as possible represent a cross-section of society drawn at random from the community as a whole. Any person between the ages of 18 and 70 is eligible to serve on a jury, unless they are disqualified in one of a number of specified ways.
