HC Deb 28 November 1995 vol 267 c673W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many statutory instruments his Department sponsored in the last Session of Parliament and how many of these(a) constituted a new rule or regulation, (b) were introduced to implement European Community directives and (c) amplify the minimum standards set out in an original European Community directive. [2463]

Sir John Wheeler

Three statutory instruments were sponsored directly by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. None of these constituted a new rule or regulation. None of them were introduced to implement European Community directives.

In addition 16 Orders in Council were made in the last session of Parliament, under schedule 1 paragraph of the Northern Ireland Act 1974.

Eight of the Orders in Council constituted a new rule, that is their main purpose was not to amend, supersede or replace earlier rules or regulations.

None of the Orders in Council were introduced to implement European Community directives.

In addition, 35 statutory instruments were sponsored by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland acting with Great Britain Departments. Four of these were introduced to implement European Community directives.
