To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the future of advanced RAF pilot training. [834]

Advanced RAF fast-jet pilot training will continue to take place at RAF Valley. Multi-engine pilot training is undertaken at RAF Cranwell, but is currently the subject of a trial to explore the feasibility of conducting this activity in the private sector. Rotary wing training will continue to be undertaken at RAF Shawbury, but from April 1997 will be provided by the new tri-service defence helicopter flying school which is to be based at the station.
