HC Deb 27 November 1995 vol 267 cc420-1W
Mrs. Roche

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total funding for the single regeneration budget in actual terms and adjusted for inflation in each year since its inception; and what percentage of this funding was disbursed through competitive bidding in each of those years. [1938]

Sir Paul Beresford

The single regeneration budget was established in April 1994. Funding has been as follows:

£ million (cash) £ million(1995–96 prices) Percentage disbursed through competitive bidding
1994–95
(estimated out-turn) 1,467 1,500 16
1995–96
(planned expenditure) 1,348 1,348 27

Programmes within the SRB that targeted resources on projects selected by competition included city challenge— in both 1994–95 and 1995–96—and the £125 million SRB challenge fund—in 1995–96. Both programmes seek to maximise investment and support from the private sector over and above public moneys. Since resources are limited, assistance under other support regimes—for example Estate Action—are also concentrated on projects likely to provide the best value for money.
