HC Deb 27 November 1995 vol 267 c427W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what form of training has been given by Britain to Guatemalan police officers in the period since July 1994. [2812]

Sir Nicholas Bonsor

Britain has provided no training for Guatemalan police officers since July 1994. We have, however, sent two police experts in handwriting and fingerprinting to assess Guatemalan capabilities in this field. They went in July 1995.

Mr. Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what selection criteria are adopted when choosing Guatemalan police officers for training in Britain; and if this includes consideration of their human rights record. [2813]

Sir Nicholas Bonsor

No Guatemalan police officers have been trained in Britain in recent years.
