Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what assessment his Department has made of the relative number of hours worked by employees in(a) the United Kingdom and (b) other EU countries. [1006]

The latest available figures are for 1993. The average usual hours worked a week by employees in the United Kingdom was 37.2, compared to an average of 37.1 for all the states that were members of the European Union at that time.
