asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether any members of the Armed Forces have applied to serve on health authorities; whether they have been accepted; and whether they are being encouraged to apply.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege):

A number of ex-members of the Armed Forces have been accepted and appointed to health authorities. People from all sections of the community are encouraged to apply to be considered for National Health Service non-executive appointments to health authorities.
