HC Deb 22 November 1995 vol 267 cc201-2W
Mr. Battle

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what assessment he has made of the extent to which electricity suppliers are fulfilling their obligations to maintain the service lead of wiring and equipment in the customer's premises up to the meter; and if he will make a statement. [1448]

Mr. Page

The statutory obligations on public electricity suppliers to maintain their service equipment in consumers' premises are set out in the Electricity Supply Regulations 1988, as amended.

These regulations are administered and enforced by the engineering inspectorate in the Department of Trade and Industry. The inspectorate monitors all incidents and accidents which must be reported to the Secretary of State under regulation 34 of these regulations.

The inspectorate carries out inspections of suppliers' woks including those located on consumer's premises under section 30(2) of the Electricity Act 1989 and regulation 33 of the regulations.
