HC Deb 21 November 1995 vol 267 cc101-2W
Mrs. Anne Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many allegations of fraudulent claims she has investigated under the assisted places scheme, due to claimants understating their incomes. [21]

Mrs. Gillan

It is for participating schools, in the first instance, to investigate any claims by parents seeking help under the assisted places scheme which schools have reason to believe may have been made fraudulently. The Education (Assisted Places) Regulations 1995 provide that, if the parents of an assisted pupil do not duly furnish the school with supporting documentary evidence, or if they knowingly or recklessly furnish false information, they shall not be entitled to any remission of fees for that year.
