Mr. MacShane

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what discussions she has had over the last year with trade unions on the subject of apprenticeships in the manufacturing industry; and if she will make a statement. [452]

Mr. Paice

We have had no personal discussions with trade unions on this subject. Industry training organisations have involved manufacturing sectors' trade unions widely in discussions about the development of modern apprenticeship frameworks.
