Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what consultations he has had with the chairman of the South East Wales ambulance trust concerning incidents in which Mercedes-Benz Wadham Stringer ambulances have rolled over at low speeds and the removal of all such vehicles in the trust fleet from road duty since 8 November pending a determination of the mechanical explanation for the incidents; [1055]

(2) if he will set up an inquiry into the Mercedes-Benz Wadham Stringer ambulance models used by the South East Wales ambulance trust for the past 18 months and removed from the road since the night of Wednesday, 8 November and if he will make a statement. [1054]

Mr. Hague

This is an operational matter for the trust which has already taken action to ensure the safety of the ambulance fleet.
