To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the total expenditure of his Department on promoting the rights of suspects under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 for each year since that Act came into force. [42099]

The approximate expenditure incurred in distributing to police forces new and revised versions of the codes of practice required under sections 60 and 66 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and notices to detained persons required under paragraph 3.2 of code C was as follows:
